Introduction to the Academic Job Market Virtual Workshop
In addition to one-off workshops, we also provide multi-session programs for graduate students at MSU. We provided identity/topic specific programs, including programs for STEM-students (BEST; BEST<>MSU Technologies Summer Workshop Series), international students (MSU/Global Detroit Global Talent Accelerator [GTA]), and Women of Color Graduate Students (Women of Color and Allies Workshop Series).
BEST
Growing out of an initiative to support students in STEM with their professional development/career preparation as they prepared for industry-specific careers, MSU BEST programming occurs Bi-weekly with MSU STEM PhD students.
Summer Programs
Over summers, we were able to focus on our programming, including GTA, the BEST<>MSU Technologies Summer Series, and the Women of Color and Allies Summer Workshop Series.
MSU/Global Detroit
Global Talent Accelerator (GTA) Introduction Session
The GTA was a collaborative program built with the Michigan-based company Global Detroit, which works to support immigrants contributing to the economy (by growing entrepreneurship opportunities and preparing international students for the US Job Market).
The GTA accepted 24 international students, primarily STEM students, to participate in our four-part workshop series over the Summer of 2024. Topics for these workshops included: how to promote yourself with employers, coaching from professionals in the field, and mock interviews. We had a guest speaker from MDARD, an immigration lawyer, and two field trips (to the LinkedIn office in Detroit and the Detroit Global headquarters).

BEST<>MSU Technologies
Summer Workshop Series
The 5-part Summer session, put on during Summer 2024, focused on technology transfer and startups as options for STEM graduate students. This program was run as a pilot program for a future course on technology and commercialization, which ran Fall 2024.

Career Preparation and Mental Health
The Women of Color Initiative (WOCI) is an initiative supporting female-identifying students of color. The Women of Color and Allies Workshop Series was a collaborative summer workshop series put on in collaboration between Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), The Graduate School. WOCI, and the Career Services Network (CSN).
We ran the 3-part workshop series (plus kickoff events) in Summer 2024 and 2025. Our workshops were centered around mental health and mental health, utilizing Women of Color Feminism theories.
