While in my role, I was featured in many promotional materials/social media posts through both our office's social media and the Graduate School. Part of my mission within my role was to make sure not only that we were sharing out important information to students in a way that they could understand, but also that the information reached the most people in the ways that were most effective for them. That included creating blog posts, newsletters, social media posts (LinkedIn and Instagram), and career information videos.

A big part of our role is making ourselves visible and accessible to students. Although we technically serve over 11,000 graduate students, we only ever see a small portion of that population. Our goal has been to expand our impact, and sometimes that can be as simple as putting a face to a name by introducing our career advisors to campus.

PhD Career Advisor Year Two Introduction Post
In my first year in the role, I advocated for the creation of a LinkedIn page for the office because of LinkedIn's multifunctional purpose as a networking site, career news site, social media platform, and job search tool. I have used the LinkedIn page as a way to maximize our office's impact through information-sharing, reaching wider audiences than I could at a single workshop.
I am incredibly proud of this project. I grew the office's LinkedIn page from two employees to over 350 followers and rising. The office page has been a labor of love, and I have taken sole responsibility of creating periodic posts sharing advice, interesting readings, and promoting on-campus events. I have invited nearly all of the MSU students, faculty, and staff that I meet, as well as external partners, to follow the page, and it has now begun to grow on its own.
During my time in the role, I experimented with various ways to connect with campus. One of those was with blog posts, short pieces of advice for our students based on trends we'd been seeing in conversations, in career spaces like LikedIn, and in the news.
This blog post, titled "Setting Yourself Up for Success: Practical Advice from a Career Advisor/Current Graduate Student," provided advice based on my conversations with students and consistent themes I saw surrounding their career preparation/professional development concerns, growth opportunities, and solutions. Advice included creating a LinkedIn, making a Master Resume/CV, signing up for MSU trainings through IT and the library, and networking with everyone in the field who comes to campus.
