Theresa Murphy is an educator and story-lover whose interests include academia, literature, history, nature, and travel. She holds an Honors Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education and English Language Arts from Marquette University, a Master's of Philosophy in Irish Writing from Trinity College, Dublin, and a Master's of Education in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University. She currently works as a Graduate Student Career Advisor and Undergraduate Instructor. She has previous experience in faculty services and international education. She spends her spare time taking weekend trips, cultivating a freelance editing business, continuing her education, skiing, writing, and attending weekly Tuesday Trivia with friends.

I am a freelance editor with a professional editing certificate from University of Chicago and previous experience in the writing collective Foster. I also have two English degrees, one from Marquette University and one from Trinity College Dublin. I enjoy both fiction and academic editing. My specialty is copyediting and proofreading, but I also aid in developmental edits. My fiction editing has focused mainly on Fantasy and Sci-Fi passion projects. My academic editing spans academic journal articles, referee reports, career documents, college-related papers, and college/graduate school application materials. I have particular skill editing for non-native English speakers and rephrasing/editing for conciseness.

I provide support in career exploration, job search strategies, career document review (including resumes, CVs, cover letters, academic cover letters, personal statements, teaching statements, research statements, DEI statements, etc.), personal websites, LinkedIn, networking, negotiation, and more. I have specialized experience supporting Master's and PhD students, international students, and STEM students.
I have participated in multiple hiring committees and bring valuable insight into what hiring managers are looking for in candidates. I also excel in translating career preparation expectations into language that academics comprehend.
